1. WE LOVE BECAUSE GOD LOVES US.
   1 Jn 4:7-8 “Love comes from God…for God is love.”
   1 Jn 4:19 “We love because God first loved us.”

2. LOVE IS A CHOICE AND A COMMITMENT.
   Deut 30:20 “Choose to love the Lord your God…and commit yourself to him…”
   
   
3. LOVE IS AND ACTION NOT JUST EMOTION.
   1 Jn 3:18 “Let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”
   
   
4. LOVE IS A SKILL
   1 Jn 4:7 “Dear friends, let us practice loving each other, for love comes from God and
   those who are loving and kind show that they are the children of God, and that they are
   getting to know him better”.

5. LOVE IS A HABIT
   Heb 13:1 “Continue to love each other with true Christian love.”
   

Title: A Breakthrough Life

Breakthrough = a striking important advance or discovery in any field of knowledge, activity

5 areas of breakthrough in our lives, represented by 5 Philistine cities:

I. AHSDOD – “city on a hill”
A high lofty place, a stronghold, a fortress
Symbolises: Pride (Prov. 4:18)

II. GAZA – capital city
Represents  Government
Symbolises: Self Rule (Jud. 21:25)

III. ASHKELON – a thriving port city
Represents prosperity
Symbolises: Greed & Selfishness (Eph. 5:3)

IV. GATH – greenery, vine press
Symbolises: Problems (1 Tim. 1:7)

V. EKRON – Baal Zebub “Lord of the Flies”
Symbolises: Distraction (2 Kg. 1:2)

Why did God choose this army to come against his chosen people?  What kind of army did
God raised up?

1. GET UP
   V1 – The trumpet call.
   The Babylonians responded instead of the Israelites.  The call of the church is to evangelise.
   We do not hear the call because of past hurts and hearing a different rhythm – we are too immersed
   in the things of the world to hear God.
   
2. GOES UP
   The church needs to be biased towards action.  No hesitancy.  Going up with the finishing line in sight.
   Go up inspite of challenges.

3. GROW UP
   V8. “Do not jostle one another.”
   Are we supportive of one another? Are we united to get the job done, giving God the
   glory for all success?

• Don’t treat our salvation lightly.

• Don’t forget Galilee… where you came from or what you’ve gone through.

• “Mountains” symbolise different experiences in our Christian journey.  The 5 mountain

  illustrations used by Matthew:-

  a) Mountain of the temptation & trials

  b) Mountain of teaching (Sermon on the Mount)

  c) Mountain of miracles (feeding of the multitudes)

  d) Mountain of Transfiguration (Chap 14)

  e) Mountain of Commissioning (Chap 28)

• All of our Christian life finds it’s relevance here (the Great Commission).  When our journey and

  mountains are seen in the light of eternity, it has an important purpose and we won’t backslide.

Beware the Law of Erosion!

I.      IMPACT OF THE FIRST GENERATION

2 characteristic of the Joshua generation:
a) a word-centered lifestyle.
b)an action centered lifestyle.

II.   THE FAILURE OF THE SECOND GENERATION

Head knowledge is not the same as heart knowledge.

Characteristics:
a) Lazy self satisfaction
b) An ungrateful heart
c) A superficial relation to God’s word

III. REDEMPTIVE FAITHFULNESS OF GOD

• Divine discipline (Judges 2:13-15).
• We cannot be static in our Christian life. If we don’t advance, we stagnate and gradually
  die below our potential.

The Psalm contrasts:
2 Paths: God’s way vs Man’s way
2 kinds of people: Righteous vs Wicked
2 value systems & lifestyle and
2 destinies.

4 things about the Righteous:
I      HE IS PLANTED
II    HE BEARS FRUIT
III  HE DOESN’T WITHER
IV HE PROSPERS

Examples:
a) Moses (Heb. 11:24-26)
b) Esau (Heb.  12:16-17)
We can choose the path but we cannot choose the consequences.

Conclusion
Q. Have you made the decision of decisions?
Q. Are you still making the decision that keep you on the path to your destiny?

Stewardship of time, money, morals (body), talent.

IV. LIVE A FRUITFUL LIFE
Ps 1:1-3 Margin empowers fruitfulness (character & influence)
